I have to add that initially when Speedfan installed and ran the first time, it ran OK with no errors. What I did when it was running the first time, is I tried different cpu clock speeds. 143 mhz worked OK, so i decided to try 147 mhz, at which point an application gave an error which I couldn't get rid of, so I decided to reboot the computer, and thats when I started getting the Fatal Exception Error and the restart instead of shut down problem. The other things I should note is that I did try reverting back to a Registry previous to the Speedfan install, as well as disabling system.ini and win.ini start-up with no success, which makes me quite baffled as to what Speedfan could have done to cause these problems.

Try the /NOSMARTSCAN command line switch. This should fix your issue.
I don't know why, but it looks like some Win9x are experiencing troubles when accessing SMART drives, even if I got only very few reports and without any clear pattern. Which HDDs do you have connected?

using the /NOSMARTSCAN switch, Speedfan runs fine. I have two hard drives on my system, a 120GB Western Digital WD1200JB, and a 60GB Maxtor 5T060H6. I have bootable Windows on both of them, and yes, I have Speedfan problems happening on both installations identically. Disconnecting each drive at a time and booting that drive, I still get Fatal Exception and restart instead of shut down problem happening with each drive.
