Summary | 0001952: After display turnoff (power plan - 15 minutes) ATI GPU temp shows -999 and fanspeed shows 0
Description | I have a new ATI 7970 Saphire video card. Whenever the screen goes to sleep (c.q. turned of by the power plan), and is awakened afterwards (from being black) the temp reading on the gpu shows -999 and the fan shows 0 rpm. (I do never let the computer go to sleep). Only stopping and restarting fanspeed will show the temperature and fanspeeds again.

I have a similar rig and have the same problem W7 64bit 4.46 beta 6 ATI 7950 GFX card (Powercolor) Sleep and wake results in -999 for GPU temp. Fixed by exit and reload of speedfan |
Speedfan 4.47 W7 64bit ATI Radeon 4850 GFX (MSI) Asus P5Q Deluxe I am also seeing this, and restarting speedfan fixes it. I also see it when going in through Remote Desktop. When I restart speedfan in this case, the GPU does not appear at all. ERROR: Fan Controller 1 can't find PWM (ATI Video Card@$0(onISA@$290)) Can't find temperature sensor (1 from ATI Video Card@$0(onISA@$290)) Loaded 0 events |
Well, +1 though I wrote it there already (http://www.bugtrack.almico.com/view.php?id=2051). It seems like W7 x64 problem here. And there is a way to set up minimum fan speed at least 20% just to be sure the card won't burn out)) |
I performed some tests with the latest ATI drivers and didn't experience this issue. Is it still alive for you? |
Yes it does. Yesterday I've restarted speedfan again because of this. And of course this is a strange bug. Sometimes it happens after a few minutes, but sometimes is still working fine after many hours in this state. Upd. Once again: http://rghost.ru/41990747/image.png Latest beta driver installed, though the behavior was the same with WHQL version. |
I have the same issue, When the screens (I have three in Eyefinity mode) wakes up from standby the temp of the GPU is to -999 degrees according to SpeedFan. After stooping and restarting SpeedFan the temperature is back to "normal" again. I am using the latest version of ATI:s drivers and I am using Windows 7 x64. |
I don't have Speedfan automatically control the fan speeds on my HD 7770, I let CCC take care of that. I'm not sure how much protection that can actually afford my card from a beta program, but as I said in my one bug report on this issue (was unable to find a precedent on this, bad google search I guess), this still works better for me than the 447 version of this program. |
I have a very similar issue. When letting the computer run for a longer time (several hours) under load (FaH), most times GPU temperature will change to -999 degrees. It does not change until I restart speedfan. Some other observations: Other tools (GPU-Z/MSI afterburner) still reports correct temperature if started beforehand. The issue seems to appear independent of if tools reading GPU temperature are started or not System spec: Speedfan 4.47 Windows 7 x64 ASUS 5850 No CCC installed Latest ATI drivers Gigabyte motherboard |
Same thing here. Occurs after some hours idling. I'ts a bit more critical than "Minor" to me because speedfan is handling my gpu's fan speed. System spec: Speedfan 4.47 Windows 7 x64 RADEON 6950 CCC installed Latest ATI drivers ASUS P8P67 |
Hm. Maybe it's happening only when speedfan controls GPU, because there is no problems with the readings when MSI Afterburner does the thing and speedfan only reads the temperature. |
No it isn't, because speedfan don't control my GPU Fan. I removed my physical GPU fan and I make speedfan control the "chassis FAN" instead. In Speedfan the GPU Fan is not activated. I can add that the problem can occur even when the pc is not idle |
Do you think that MSI Afterburner could be in conflict with Speedfan while reading the temp? How can I help in solving this bug, that is critical to me? |
No. Speedfan had wrong readings even before I've installed Afterburner. The problem is "W7 x64 + speedfan" only. |
That's weird, I don't know if it is thanks to new AMD drivers or the removal of Afterburner, but the problem has disappeared. |
