This never happened to me, and I never heard of such a behaviour under XP.
Is SpeedFan working fine other than that?

If I disable the "Q-Fan" feature, speed control for all fans works fine and temperature reading works. But the program doesn't shutdown corretly as I wrote before, he remains into RAM (is visible into task manager) after you use the exit or close command. Or I skipped some important config or tweak?

Which is your exact motherboard model?
Are you using user switching?
Might it be that you have started SpeedFan in an unusual way?
You are using XP, right?

My mobo is Asus P5B Deluxe wi-fi edition (have a wireless USB ethernet adapter). I use admin login, no user switching. I start Speedfan by "normal way" i think (select then into start menu). I now are trying the latest beta (beta 18) but fan control again dont' work unless i disable q-fan into bios

Update: Use of advanced settings and change "Smart Fan III" mode to "manual PWM control" solves the problem of gain control over fan speed with "q-fan" enabled

Are you running SpeedFan with admin rights?
Can SpeedFan write in its directory?
Do you still experience the shutdown issue?

Yes, i use Speedfan with admin rights (or expected that, windows sometimes do strange things :) ). And speedfan can write into directory. About shutdown issue, now seens a random problem (sometimes the system shutdown corretly). I will test more to say if is solved or not

Try a few shutdowns the way you deactivate security softwares (if you use any) before. Especially if you use software firewall with any kind of application control in it.

TOMH, I'm sorry, but I can't understand your message. Could you help me?

I mean to disable manually virus / spyware killers, firewalls with app controls, packet sheduler software etc... before shutdown if any installed. They may keep Speedfan from close some files / resources at shutdown so the program remains in the memory busy and unresponsive. (-> not reacting to WM_QUERYENDSESSION windows messages correctly and so shutdown process stops)

You've just put some word about incompatibility hit Speedfan on the F-Secure issue yesterday and you're right. You cant be responsible for incompatibilities. So IMHO it worth to rule out that maybe this is the root of the problem here, too.

Well, I don't have any firewall enabled, only NOD32 antivirus into "passive" mode. seens to disapear the suhtdown problem but i not sure, is random now

Can you post a Hijackthis and a Process Explorer log? (Quick howto : http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=273064#p273064 )

I have to admit that I'll have to wait for Tomh analysis...
By the way: there is an UPLOAD file here too, if needed.

At first I'd stop Postgres and Tomcat services manually and then try a restart as the easier step to rule out these.
You use pretty normal programs (several of them I used by me, too) except GetRight and the Raxco defragmenter.
I haven't heard much good about GetRight so try to disable it temporarily either.

If none of these works, I'd uninstall temporarily the defragmenter software. This kind of programs just like virus scanners are usually hooks the system deeply so disabling them is not enough at most cases.

If I should, I'd bet that the Raxco program is the responsible for this issue, but we'll see :)

I assume you have the latest drivers installed at last for the chipset, storage and lan. Hope it helps.

Uhh... The postgres, Tomcat, PerfectDisk (Raxco) are show into process list, but them are disabled (manual start only). I don't know why the hijackthis showed then if they are not running into the log generation moment (in this moment, all of then are not running and speedfan have the shutdown issue).

An another strange thing: Id i open the most recent Everest diagnostic program and close, speedfan shows correty the speed of fans .until this, if speedfan lower the speed of fans, they shows "0 rpm", and if I open Everest, speedfan shows the correty rpm speed. Everest have privileges on access motheboard data? is a lot strange

The Darkmaster, enter CONFIGURE / ADVANCED and select a higher FAN DIVISOR (8 should do).
I have a beta for those who are experiencing this shutdown issue. Please, send me an email (alfredo [at] almico.com) using an email address not on gmail (I can't send a zipped exe there).

Ok. The bug is gone. The fix will be in SpeedFan 4.34 beta. I should make it available to registered users next week. Thank you for all of your help.
