Summary0000936: Random Freezes on Startup
DescriptionFirst of all, I am aware of the AMD coretemp bug, which randomly freezes when reading the coretemp. To verify this on my machine, I wrote a little prog, that reads the core temps a hundred times in a row and that kills my machine within 5 seconds... (Using Bus 0, Dev 24, Func 03, Register 0xE4).

So, I disabled "Chip: AMD K8, Sensor: Core" to avoid SpeedFan reading the coretemp.

However, I am occasionally (one in four) having complete freezes when SpeedFan starts. I have to power-off/on my machine to restart.

Might be related to 0000639?

I now added /NOAMDK8SCAN, but it does not help to cure the problem.

On my system the problem also occurs during boot process, i.e. when SpeedFan is loaded via Autostart afer Autologon. I just had four freezes in a row, the fifth boot made it.

As soon as SpeedFan is running, it works rock stable.

Can I somehow enable extensive logging in SpeedFan to pinpoint the problem?
