Summary | 0000910: PC turned off -- won't turn on
Description | I was playing around with SpeedFan but I have not adjusted any settings. When I tried to Report my motherboard using the Send Report feature, I watched it scan my system and then the PC turned off suddenly. It wont turn back on! The power light comes on, but no BIOS screen. Nothing! Please HELP!

Did you try a BIOS Reset, yet? |
|
First of all: unplug the power cable for 30 seconds, then put it back in place. Does your system reboot now? If the answer is no, remove the power cable again and then follow the procedure to clear your CMOS. Let me know. |

Yes, unplugging the power cable for 30 seconds worked. Pretty scary software! |

The hardware can be so much different. Exceptions are very difficult to avoid. As far as I know there is almost no hardware where what you experienced happens, but... On your system you clearly noticed that it is the SEND REPORT process that triggers the issue. In SpeedFan's directory you should find a DEBUG.NFO file. Could you use the UPLOAD FILE facility on this page to send it to me? I will create a new release that will avoid the issue. I, and the users of your motherboard, will greatly appreciate. |

markws, maybe you accidentally shut off one of your fans and the CPU got too hot so the BIOS shut it off? A good way to check would be to open up your case and have an external fan blowing into it while running the report from speedfan. That way you could know for sure what causes the problem. Computer shutting off could also be due to an overloaded/overheating PSU, however since this is the first time it happened to you I think overheating is a more likely option. Also I suggest you take a look at the CPU heatsink and see if it has a lot of dust on it, if so clean it out. |

Sometimes there is a device that can't be detected on the SMBus. As far as I know, in the extremely rare cases when a similar thing happened, a power cable unplug resolved the issue. New versions of SpeedFan include fixes that resolve such issues when the user reports them. |
