| Description | Recently, I noticed that my CPU fan won't lower below around 1400RPMs. In the past (perhaps two weeks ago?) I know I had stabilized it around 1100RPMs using 30% power. Now, any adjustments I make below 40% to CPU fan speed seem to do nothing. I could move from 35% to 15% (or even 0%) with absolutely no change in RPMs (still 1400). I tried reinstalling 4.31 to see if it might be related to 4.32, but no change. It isn't a reading anomaly, either. The sound level is higher than it used to be, for sure (why I noticed in the first place). Any ideas/fixes would be much appreciated! Thanks for a great product. | ||||

I'm experiencing the same thing with the Zalman CNSP9700 NT on an Asus P5E3 Deluxe WiFi-AP@n. I'm running SpeedFan 4.34. However, unlike RichNY, I have never been able to get the speed below 1300rpm. Zalman's website states that this fan has two modes, Silent mode = 1250rpm +/-30% Normal mode = 2800rpm +/-10% These modes can be set in the BIOS Q-Fan control settings. Disabling the Q-Fan control settings in the BIOS, I am able to set the fan speed with SpeedFan, but only in the range 1300-2800rpm (30-100% in SpeedFan). Setting the speed in the range 0-30% in SpeedFan has no effect on the fan speed, it won't go lower than 1300rpm. According to a review of the fan, http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/cpu/zalman9700nt.html , "Noise from the 9700 NT at ultra-low speed (below 700 rpm) is even below the sensitivity level of our tools". This indicates that it is not a limitation of the fan, but since I have not managed to get it to run below 1300rpm, I can not be sure. Does anyone have any suggestions? |

It might be a limitation of the BIOS/PWM Controller. I can't think of a reason why or how Speedfan could prevent the fan from running with lower speeds. You could write an E-Mail to Asus to find out about the limitations of the BIOS/PWM controller used on that Board, but I doubt that they will give you a qualified answer. |
