Platform | ASUS P5B Deluxe/Intel Core 2 Duo | OS | Windows XP MCE 2005 | OS Version | SP2/Rollup 2 |
Product Version | 4.31 | ||||
Summary | 0000772: After reinstall of 4.31 or 4.32, program freezes upon clicking "Configure" button, or
Description | SpeedFan version 4.31 was running fine for more than a week. When I discovered version 4.32 beta 8, I didn't read the installation instructions and made the fatal error of first trying to uninstall version 4.31 while it was running minimized. This generated an error that the uninstall was not complete, and suggested that I close all programs and reinstall 4.31 in order to uninstall it properly. After this reinstall and many other uninstall/reinstalls with 4.31 or 4.32 either program finds the sensors and displays all normal info, and displays info on opening each tab. But when the "configure" button is clicked, it stops responding to any mouse or keyboard inputs. The same happens after the "send report"facility is used.
Steps To Reproduce | 1. Run Speedfan 4.31 and minimize the interface. 2. Use Start >Progams >speedfan >uninstall speedfan to uninstall speedfan while it's still running. During the uninstall process, there will be a few files "used by other programs" warnings. Elect to delete these files. There will be a message that Speedfan was not completely uninstalled, and to close all programs, reinstall Speedfan to uninstall it properly. 3. After the first reinstall in step 2, click on the "configure" button and the program will stop responding to all mouse and any useful keyboard input. However, the sensor data will continue to be displayed and updated. 4. Uninstall and reinstall as many times as you want and you'll get the same result. Use the 4.32 beta 8 file and the same will result, even thought the new Core 2 Duo sensors will be nicely displayed.
Additional Information | Please tell me how I can fix this problem. Debug.nfo file is attached.

I forgot to say that when SpeedFan stops responding, I have to close it by right-clicking the ICOn on the task bar, or through the Windows Task Manager where it closes quite quickly. |

Oops! I found the problem after having a new issue with another program. I'd changed the default program in Windows Explorer>Tools>Folded Options>Filetypes for the .NFO filetype from Systeminfo.exe to Notepad.exe. This was the problem. I hurriedly made this change because I hadn't found out how to set up Forte Agent Newsreader to override Systeminfo.exe with Notepad.exe to open the MIME plaintext filetype with the .NFo extension. Now everything is fine. Sorry. |
