Summary0000747: BSOD/Crash on running Speedfan
DescriptionInstallation went smooth but on running speedfan it starts loading then crashes with a BSOD. Once it totally hung without a Blue screen.

I have tried the following switches:
/NOSMBSCAN
/NOSMARTSCAN

Additional InformationSome background info:
System: Asus P4S800D-X with OS installed on the onboard SATA(SiS 180 Raid controller) with RAID0 config; 1024MB RAM; ATI 9600XT Graphics card.

Heres the interesting thing, before I reinstalled the system on to the SATA raid I was running XP off the Primary IDE using a regular IDE drive and speedfan ran flawlessly on that. After formatting the primary IDE Drive and moving the OS to the SATA Raid I haven't gotten to run speedfan even once!

Are you sure you properly used the /NOSMARTSCAN command line parameter?
What's the error that you get?

Ok, I finally found a switch that works!
/NOPCISCAN works in my case.

fyi:
All the other cases I tried, /NOSMBSCAN, /NOACPISCAN, /NOSMARTSCAN all gave me a BSOD as follows:
Speedfan starts up...
I/O Properly initialized
Linked ISA BUS at $0290
Scanning ISA BUS at $0290...
BSOD!

BSOD details:
"A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited."
STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x85645468, 0x856455DC, 0x80604450)

you can get some better error information from event viewer.
Go to start->accessories->System tools -> event viewer.
You can find the error there and it will have a bunch more specific info
