Summary | 0000711: Nvidia 7800GTX sensor chip disappeared
Description | Speedfan 4.31 was detecting the sensor chip and giving reading for temp, voltage and fan speed up until yesterday. After updating motherbord driver to Nforce 6.86 (from 6.85) the detection and readings from the chip disappeared. Both Everest and RivaTuner 16.2 both read the chip fine only speedfan lost this ability.
Additional Information | Concurrent with this Motherboard Monitor started hanging at 50% cpu usage on start with anything other than a minimal INI file. There was a recent Video driver Upgrade to version 9371-whql but the sensor detection appeared to work after that upgrade.

Follow up: It appears to be related to running a television as a secondary monitor. When the secondary monitor is activated and there is a reboot the sensor disappears when it's deactivated and another reboot the sensor reappears. The MBM usage was unrelated |

A possible related issue that I am testing. I get screen corruption forcing a complete restart of the system to restore picture when I am using the video overlay feature of my video card. I'm using nvidia driver ver. 93.71. The problem is intermittent and seems to occur when I open an overlay window and attempt to open a second window application. The system does not crash, I just lose or have corruption of video signal. I have not been able to duplicate the problem with Speedfan disabled suggesting that Speenfan is somehow corrupting the registers used by the video drivers. This is a MAJOR issue, if in fact Speedfan is the problem, and I've been forced to disable speedfan until I can confirm whether or not it is causing the problem. edit: nevermind, it took a while but I managed to repeat this error even without Speedfan running |
