Summary0000669: Can not control fans on ASUS P5B-VM
DescriptionHello,

I have an ASUS P5B-VM with a windbond W8327DHG according to SpeedFan 4.31.
Installing is working and also reading of temps and RPM's.
But I and also others with the same MB can not control the fans.
The Q-fan is disabled in BIOS.
I have heard that the P5B-VM spscifically does only support the 4-pin CPU-fan connector fans with PWM and current control on the 4th pin and not on a standard 3-pin or a voltage controlled 2-pin fans. This is different to how the other P5B's are working as I understand.

I am not sure if I am correct.
But could this be the reson that is doesn't work with fan-control on this MB?
Can it be corrected?

Thanks

I did send you a SEND REPORT yesterday evening around 22.00 with the email adress
jhansen(at) spray,se..
Today my standard 4-pin stock fan is not connected, as the CPU is passiv cooled.
I use a two wire fan connected to my CPU-fan 4-pin connector that is the chassifan which I would like to contol.
If you want, I could reconnect the 4-pin for you to see the RPM's and then resend a new SEND REPORT.

Currently your CPUFAN is set to use PWM and your SYSFAN is set to use DC.
Can you do some tests to see which kind of fan can be controlled in those headers?
I will try to figure out if I can safely let the end user change the type of output.

Thanks Alfredo for looking at the problem.

I have now done some testing during the weekend and I have 3 fan-connectors at the MB.
CPU_FAN, CHA_FAN and PWR_FAN. I have two fans one stock CPU fan which is a 4-pin PWM and one 2 wire chassi fan which I have an adapter to a 3-pin.
I have moved these fan around in all positions and none of them can be controlled at any of the 3 positions.
The CPU fan shows the correct RPM at the 3 positions on the MB in SpeedFan.

I will send you a mail with more info and some attachments.

Thanks

Hi Alfredo,

I did send you a mail on the 30th of October with some more info.
I tried the 4.32beta4 and it worked fine reading the C2D E6600 core temp, almost identical with TAT.
But the beta4 was still not able to control the fans on my P5B.
Do you want me to test anything more?

Many thanks

I tested the 4.32 beta 8 on my P5B-VM and I am still not able to control my fans.
Yesterday I tested the 4.31 on my friends P5B with the same C2D processor as I have and the P5B can control the CPU fan, but NOT my P5B-VM.

There is also no way in the P5B to change between DC/PWM control in the BIOS but it would be nice to be able to do so in SpeedFan.

I did send you a "SEND REPORT" which you had a look at on the 24th of Oct at around 22.00.

Many thanks

/Jonas

I also have this mobo, and have the same issue. If there is any other info that would be helpful, I would be glad to try to provide it. Thanks.

I've some weird behavior too with my P5B Deluxe. I'm able to control the fans manually (cpu and case fans). if i try to have them automatically controlled. the cpu fans drops form 1700 to 900 rpm. it remains at this level even the cpu temperature goes up. same for the case fans. i also tried the thermal and the fan speed cruise in the advanced menu of speed fan.

I have a P5B Deluxe and some Nexus fans which spin at max ~ 1K, with speedfan I'm able to get them to spin at even 350 rpm, but I need to set the Fan? Divisor at 32 to read them at that speed, hope that is OK.

An ISSUE is that only Speed04 controls the two case fans I have plugged in, they are both controled on that same option, ie: not seperate. And Speed01-03 do nothing.

The two fans controled together by Speed04 are plugged into the MoBo ChaFan1 and ChaFan3 (which are controled).

My other case fan is plugged into PwrFan, which I do not believe is controlable. My heatsink fan is plugged into CPUFan but has the zalman speed control on it, and both are not effected by any SpeedFan control that I've been able to try.

I'd like to control those two fans on ChaFan1 and ChaFan3 seperatly, is there a way?

BTW: Using SpeedFan 4.32 beta 8

TIA

GPM3, if two fans are controlled together, most likely it's by hardware design.

Alfredo, grazie.

I was afraid of that... I'll try chafan1 to see if that is controlled separetly. I think I did once with the same effect, ie: it is controlled with the other two.

Is a divisor of 32 going to be OK?

Yes, 32 is not a problem.

Hi Alfredo,

Any updates regarding the control of the P5B-VM?
I have waited with faith since October for the support.
Should I wait a bit more or should I buy two PWM fans and control it with Q-fan.
I would very much like to use speedfan..

Thanks

Updated my bios to 6.13 and tried the 4.32 final without any success.
Uploaded a SEND REPORT yesterday 3/3 at around 13.00..

Greatful for a fix..
