Summary0000534: Feature Requests
DescriptionPlease consider adding the following features into the next version of SpeedFan.

(1) Add a "/SAFE" command line parameter, which would force SpeedFan into a passive "safe" or "read only" mode in which the utility can read and display sensor information, but be disabled from making any changes that impact the hardware (e.g., the Clock and Advanced options). The intention of the switch would be to prevent the occurrence of accidental changes.

(2) In the S.M.A.R.T. tab, display the hard disk temperature in the units selected by the user. At present, if degrees Fahrenheit are enabled, then the hard disk temperature information is nonetheless still displayed in Celsius.

(3) Allow the user to specify the path (folder) into which the SFLog*.csv files will be written.

(4) Add descriptions and explanations of the S.M.A.R.T. fields (e.g., "Read Channel Margin") into the Help file.

(5) When the S.M.A.R.T. tab is first selected, the display window is blank. The window should be automatically populated with the information from the first hard disk drive detected.

(6) Add an option that controls whether or not an icon for SpeedFan is displayed in the System Tray.

SpeedFan is an outstanding utility. The above comments are not a criticism of the tool, but are provided in the hope that it will make the program even better.

Concerning "item 4", there is an excellent article on "Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology" in Wikipedia. It contains a description of S.M.A.R.T. attributes.

An additional feature request:

(7) Allow the user to specify the cycle refresh interval - i.e., the number of seconds elapsing between readings of the sensors.
