Summary0000500: Idea for user-configurable fan control rules

I was wondering how hard it would be to add a "fan control" action to the Events handler.

My idea is to let users get as creative as they want for fan control by letting them setup their own rules as events. For example:
If CPU temp IT8712F >= 45 then Fan01 Fan Speed = %20
If CPU temp IT8712F >= 50 then Fan01 Fan Speed = %40
If CPU temp IT8712F >= 60 then Fan01 Fan Speed = %100
If CPU tepm IT8712F >= 60 then Fan02 Fan Speed = %100

Of course there would have to be a checkbox somewhere to choose between the default (built-in) fan control algorithms and the user-defined algorithms.

I'm not sure how hard it would be to add the new action, but it would be a great feature for all those power tweakers who want to find that perfect balance of noise vs. temp.

I agree. I really like speedfan, but I believe the alorithims can be tweaked or you should allow the end user to have full control.

   I like the idea of having more control over fan speed. I have a fan installed in front of my 2 hard disks. Currently the fans go from MIN to MAX because a temp goes 1 degree over desired. If one of the drives hit Desired, then the fan runs at 100% for 1-2 minutes, then quickly goes to MIN for 5-10 minutes. There is a lot of mass in hard drives, so there is a big delay to heat up or cool down the drive.

   Desired temps could be setup as a range instead of a single value. The low end of the range has lowest fan speed, the high end of the range will set the fans to MAX. (Fuzzy logic)


    There are some devices that require fast response in cooling, other devices I prefer a slower approch. The CPU fan could even be proactivly cooled based on %CPU busy. The hard disks and internal case temp I prefer a slower approch.

    It may not be programmed for "all or nothing", but it seems to work like that in the real world.
