Summary | 0000419: SMART info is incorrect
Description | I have one 74GB raptor drive and a WDC3200JD 320GB SATA drive connected to the SiI3112 controller on my Abit NF7-S v2. Speedfan displays the following info during startup: Win9x:NO 64Bit:NO GiveIO:YES SpeedFan:YES I/O properly initialized Linked ISA BUS at $0290 Linked nVidia nForce2 SMBUS at $5000 Linked nVidia nForce2 SMBUS at $5100 Scanning ISA BUS at $0290... Winbond W83627HF (ID=$21) found on ISA at $290 SuperIO Chip=Winbond W83627HF Scanning nForce2 SMBus at $5000... LM75 found on SMBus at $4E Scanning nForce2 SMBus at $5100... SMART Enabled for drive 0 Found WDC WD3200JD-00KLB0 (74.3GB) SMART Enabled for drive 1 Found WDC WD3200JD-00KLB0 (320.1GB) Found ACPI temperature (39.5C) End of detection For some reason, the information about my raptor is corrupt. The drive size is correct but not anything else. And the Smart tab only displays information about HD0 - 74.3GB - WDC WD3200JD-00KLB0 which is obviously not right (capacity of raptor and the ID of 320G drive). Silicon Image control panel applet correctly identifies the drives as WDC WD740GD-00FLA0 FW 21.08U21 WDC WD3200JD-00KLB0 FW 08.05J08 I originally had version 1.51 of SiI drivers and 4.2.50 of the SiI BIOS. I upgraded the driver to 1.53, but it did not help. Flashing the SiI BIOS (through a modified Abit BIOS) to 4.2.66 did not help as well.
Steps To Reproduce | Start Speedfan, check SMART tab
Additional Information | Abit NF7-S v2 WinXP SP2 32-bit Silicon Image drivers 1.53, BIOS 4.2.66 I checked a few reports and I noticed that SiI drivers could cause issues when it comes to SMART information. How would I be able to isolate where the issue is at in this case?

Unfortunately this is an issue that SpeedFan can't fix. I read that one user managed to fix this using the very latest drivers for his Silicon Image's controller. It might be that new drivers are about to be released. What happens is simply that the driver returns the very same SMART data for both drives. SpeedFan detects this issue and shows only one drive in SMART. |

Thanks for the update. 1.53 drivers that I am using have just been released (I think they are not even on their website, I got it via Windows Update). It does not fix the problem, so I assume I have to live with it... |

The drivers suggested for an update by Windows Update on my hardware were always about a couple of years old. I always thought it was due to the fact that drivers suggested there might need to be signed and certified, which means newer drivers are unlikely to appear there. I'm going to close this issue now, but feel free to keep me up to date. |
