| Description | I am having a strange behavior with SpeedFan lately. I have been using SpeedFan for some time with no problem, but recently when I run it, the Deferred Procedure Call (call) processes CPU utilization starts to increase until the PC locks up. When I start SpeedFan, the DPC CPU utilization starts to increase, but not immediately (minutes later). It continues to increase slowly until the PC locks up. If I exit SpeedFan, then the DPC CPU utilization decreases slowly back to normal (very low). What information should I provide to help trouble this issue. Thanks | ||||

I have to admit that I never heard about DPC. If you could shed some light, I will be happy to find a solution. |

Figures, after I open the problem, I find a possible solution. I have a Nvidia graphics card and I will try running SpeedFan with the /NONVIDIAI2C switch. I will update if this resolves the issue. Roy |

Using the /NONVIDIAI2C switch did not help. It also might be breaking my Raid 1 and getting the disks out of sync. I dno't know if this is a symptom, cause (due to a bad disk), or totally unrelated (due to a bad disk). |

I read (part of) that (huge indeed) book. DPC is related to interrupts and SpeedFan makes no use of interrupts. In order to try to track down this issue, run SpeedFan with the following command line parameters: /NOSMARTSCAN /NONVIDIAI2C /NOWMISCAN /NOSMBSCAN This way, only sensors available on the ISA bus will be detected and used. If you no longer see the DPC issue, remove /NOSMBSCAN and go on until you find something interesting. |

Hey, its been awhile and just wanted to give you an update. Still have the problem, even after a complete rebuild of the PC. (Due to the hard drive problem.) I'm running SpeedFan with the following command line parameters: /NOSMARTSCAN /NONVIDIAI2C /NOWMISCAN /NOSMBSCAN and it is working fine. I haven't had a lot of time to to figure out which one of the parameters does the trick, but I will let you know when when I have gotten it figured out. Thanks Roy |

HI, You can go and close this issue. It turns out that my video card was going bad. After struggling for a couple of months, I got down to the point where I was forced to try replacing components. I was just lucky enough to have a spare video card. I put it in and my CPU utilization problem went away. It would been a lot less frustating if it have been a hard failure instead one of those things that really don't indicate what is going on. Oh well. |
