Summary | 0002652: Speedfan repeatedly queries a registry value that does not exist, wasting processor resources
Description | When using Microsoft SysInternals Process Monitor to troubleshoot an unrelated issue, I noticed a very large number of failed speedfan registry queries (see attached screenshot). Process: speedfan.ext Operation: RegQueryValue Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib\Disable Performance Counters Result: NAME NOT FOUND Detail: Length: 20
Additional Information | When no applications are running, these failed speedfan queries dominate background processes on my system, by far -- approximately one query per second. Although these queries take very little processor time, it would be good to avoid this waste of processor resources. Because my machine is so old, I've been hesitant to upgrade to latest version of speedfan, but I will upgrade if you advise me to do so. Thanks
