| Steps To Reproduce | Invoke Speedfan 4.51 and the system comes to a near halt. Every 30s a amd_sata Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0 event 129 is logged to the System Events (Visible in System Explorer 6.32's action log) After 6m or 12 such entries Speedfan releases and life is good. Exiting Speedfan and re-invoking it will start the process once again. | ||||
| Additional Information | Don't really have any "raid" The mini-itx board has 4 SATA ports. I only have the SSD and a front eSata connection to the board (but nothing connected to the front port). The system uses Avast for anti-virus | ||||

A further check into the system's raidport0 reference. The sata controller was pre-loaded during install with AHCI drivers and the BIOS had AHCI enabled. Installed and ran Samsung's Magician 4.5 to verify that AHCI was enabled. Not evident from Device Manager i.e no AHCI entries under IDE controllers. Also discovered some chipset upgrades for the 14.12 Catalyst upgrade. Didn't help with the Speedfan/SMART issue (at least I'm assuming SMART-related). The Noctua's have different BIOS setting for speed control. The System fan (PWM) operates in "Normal" mode which is indicated as controllable by software (Gigabyte's EasyTune). The cooler fan (another PWM) had problems with "Normal". It experienced 3-4m delays on engagement at best, at worst everything would power off. I thought the worst of it was due to overheating but their site indicated that cold starts did not have enough heat to engage the fan. However, the cooler fan works well in either "Full Speed" or "Manual" with the latter allowing some kind of PWM adjustments as temps rise (starting from .75 to 2.50 in .25 increments). Not sure whether this is linear or geometric but the playing with it keeps the temp controlled and fan quietly below (13-1500rpm) its 2500rpm full speed. 150315 1:00pm Noticed your article on the IT8620E and Gigabyte Boards. While the Event viewer was logging those very consistent 12 reset events, the Speedfan interface was hanging at "IT8620E found on ISA at $228..." Tried some experimenting. Baseline: the cooler fan (max 2500rpm) was running quietly in the 16xx rpm area. (BIOS setting is "manual" with PWM setting of 2.50) Changed to "software controlled". checked "remember it" fan speed dropped to 9xx rpm. Didn't have any effect upon subsequent invocation of speedfan. Still experienced 6m hang. Returned setting to "SmartGuardian". Fan surged between 18xx and 23xx rpm. Exited Speedfan, went for walk. \/\/\/ from Motherboard Manual \/\/\/ CPU Fan Speed Control Allows you to determine whether to enable the fan speed control function and adjust the fan speed. Normal Allows the fan to run at different speeds according to the CPU temperature. You can adjust the fan speed with EasyTune based on your system requirements. (Default) Silent Allows the fan to run at slow speeds. Manual Allows you to control the fan speed under the Slope PWM item. Disabled Allows the fan to run at full speeds. Slope PWM Allows you to control the CPU fan speed. This item is configurable only when CPU Fan Speed Control is set to Manual. Options are: 0.75 PWM value / o C ~ 2.50 PWM value / o C. |
