As you can read in several other issues here, Silicon Images drivers are really poor at handling the (standard) requests issued by SpeedFan to query about hard disks connected to their controllers. In the past I discovered that they happen to return the same data for both hard disks. This is the reason why SpeedFan makes an additional check to make sure that no duplicated serial number appears.

I was hoping that the last release of the drivers was "more compliant" than previous ones.
so this is a issue related to the driver not to SpeedFan ?

You should hope Silicon Images drivers become more "compliant" :-)

Same problem on an A7N8X deluxe rev 2.0
I have 2 160go Hitachi 7k250 with no raid.
Only the 1rst is seen.

You have the same SIL controller, I guess :-(

Yes it's the same.
I installed silicon image java sataraid program.
And guess what.
Smart is available for both drive.
But for the one the second port it's not enabled and i didn't find how enable it.
So i guess it's a dead end.

Perhaps the first drive has SMART enabled because SpeedFan does it.
The problem is that SIL is hiding those info when using standard OS calls. I don't like to mess with hard disks. If only SIL ever answered my emails...

I have a NF7-S v2.0 with 2.4 BIOS which includes 4.4.27 SI 3112 BIOS, with a WD PATA on the first channel and a WD SATA on the second channel. I have SI 3112 RAID drivers version 1.0.0.51 under Win2000.

I have tried with many other SMART tools (including WD's own Data Lifeguard diagnostics), and they can only see the first channel as well (plus the same one duplicated), so it is not just SpeedFan that has a problem.

Both have SMART enabled (seen in the SATARAID Java application), but that program does not provide the actual SMART info.

I think that it is totally down to the drivers not supporting the proper system calls = really annoying!

Well everyone now start emailing to support@siliconimage.com demanding new drivers which would have a working s.m.a.r.t. for 2nd sata connector. I emailed a few minutes ago.

I'm closing this issue as it is not an issue due to SpeedFan. I chose to mark this issue as "not an issue" using SpeedFan's perspective :-)
