Yes, this is very bad! Other USB ports are not affected, its ok when I re-connect cable from frontpanel to the motherboard. But if I turn on SpeedFan -> sd card reader disapear again.

Hi. I'm affected by this problem too, Speedfan version 4.50 (latest stable).

Card reader is part of a Cooler Master Silencio 450 PC case (so probably same model as the original reporter) and it simply disappears from "My Computer" when speedfan is run. Motherboard is Asus P8P67-M Pro, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. It also disappears from BIOS after a reboot, only way to make it appear again is to poweroff an poweron again.

Is there anything I can do to provide more information? Any advanced switches or options you want me to try to see if problem persists? Please tell me, as this bug makes Speedfan unusable.

Hello.

After digging around and trying all the documented switches (http://www.almico.com/sfarticle.php?id=3) still no success.

After searching other bug requests I found one where Alfredo asks to try an undocumented switch (or at least, I could not find its documentation): /NOADVSMARTSCAN. Trying it solved the issue.

I attached the debug.nfo file (with all the documented switches) that still caused the drive to disappear, should it matter to improve the advanced smart methods safety. Meanwhile I would suggest to document all remaining switches (including the "precious" /NOADVSMARTSCAN that saved my day) and/or creating a FAQ about what switches to try when encountering strange issues as this one.

For the rest... keep up the good work :)

I have the same problem! It took me forever to figure out!

>Motherboard is Asus P8P67-M Pro, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

I have a similar motherboard and OS - ASUS P8P67 Pro v3.0 motherboard with Window 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I use an AFT Pro-55U card reader from Atech Flash.
And I'm on SpeedFan 4.51.

Shortly after Windows boots up, the card reader disconnects and all 5 drives (SD / CF / different card types) disappear from the Computer folder. The card reader's LED light is still lit up, though. Rebooting doesn't fix the problem and the BIOS doesn't show any of the 5 drives either.

I have to physically unplug and plug in the card reader for it to be able to work again. This isn't a good solution since it's an internal card reader and I have to open my computer case to do this.

I reinstalled Windows and eventually tracked it down to SpeedFan running.

"/NOADVSMARTSCAN. Trying it solved the issue." - I will try this...

Please, send me a SEND REPORT from SpeedFan's INFO tab using the latest SpeedFan beta and I will try to fix this issue forever without having to use any switch.

Hi, I can confirm with SpeedFan 4.51 that /NOADVSMARTSCAN avoids the problem on my PC (ASUS P8P67 Pro v3.0 motherboard with Window 7 Ultimate 64 bit and AFT Pro-55U card reader).

I keep "Enable SMART summary error scan on startup" checkbox turned off, and that isn't enough to avoid the problem.

I can confirm that this bug is still occurring in SpeedFan 4.52.

I have the same problem in 4.52 version. Motherboard is Asus H97-PRO and card reader is integrated in Coolermaster Silencio case.
I realize it was Speedfan only because of the sound in windows (unplugging USB device) which occurs when starting Speedfan. Otherwise, I would never realize :(
