Summary | 0001943: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Fan running at 50% after computer startup
Description | Hi, I don't know why this is happening but my GPU fan starts at a very quiet sound then suddenly speeds up and gets very loud. I recently installed SF-4.45 from the previous 4.44 and since then I have had this problem. I'ts not a major issue but is irritating having to open speedfan and put the speed down every startup to make it quieter, as I don't have any computer knowlege I assumed somthing has been changed in the GPU settings because when I unistalled SF-4.45 the problem remained but it wasn't there on the previous verion. I have 1 graphics card not overclocked and I use Win 7 64bit.

This is because speedfan 4.45 introduced the AMD video card support. Previous speedfan versions don't support AMD video cards, and they can't control its fan. You could try to disable the video card fan speed from "Speed" tab (in "Configure"). If you want to let video card to auto-controlling the fan by itself, start speedfan with /NOATIADLSCAN parameter. This will disable the support for AMD video cards, and speedfan 4.45 return to work as the 4.44 (and previous). (I hope my english is not so bad) |
Hi, thanks for the advice I disabled the video card through configure but the problem still occurs anyway even when speedfan is unistalled the fan does the same thing so either way there is no control to slow it down until the program is open and I re-tick the box to show Speed04 fan and slow it down manually. I don't know what you mean when you said "If you want to let video card to auto-controlling the fan by itself, start speedfan with /NOATIADLSCAN parameter". How and where would I find this? |
You have to edit the Shortcut of SpeedFan. On the "Target"-line there must be something like "...\speedfan.exe". There the parameter must be added -> "...\speedfan.exe -noatiadlscan". greetings KIDH |

Hi it doesn't seem to work the message above is what I get which ever way I write it. |
You need to put /NOATIADLSCAN, and NOT -NOATIADLSCAN. Use the slash NOT the minus symbol. |
That doesn't work either just the same message with /NOATIADLSCAN at the end |
Ok, I found another error. Edit the target as follow (notice the quotes!): "C:\Program Files (x86)\SpeedFan\speedfan.exe" /NOATIADLSCAN Remember, the parameters need to be put OUTSIDE from quote. |
Thanks, it worked that time and I clicked apply and the restarted my computer and the problem is still here. In the target parameter it says "C:\Program Files (x86)\SpeedFan\speedfan.exe" /NOATIADLSCAN. I can still adjust the speed and it hasn't changed anything. What am I doing wrong? Should I now untick the fan support in Configure? |
"-" should also work!?...with spaces in the adress it's a bit tricky :D greetings KIDH |
I think I might have solved my own problem I was looking at the setting in Configure and I clicked the tab marked "Speeds" and found the fan "Speed 04 - ATI Video Card. I left clicked it and set the speed to minimum 35 + Maximum 76 and then ticked the box "Automatically Variated" and the fan set itself to 35. My GPU is now reading between 56c-58c, and it's is slightly quieter. What speed should it be set too? |
I am working on this. It seems that the driver versions I used for testing behaved differently. Right now I just managed to disable "Manual fan control" (you can check this in CCC) when exiting SpeedFan. Now I am trying to figure out where to read if that option is enabled or not. The bit that should be set according to the documentation is not working. Most likely, I will add an ADVANCED option to let you choose what to do with that setting on program exit. |
Ok, the beta is ready. Now, on SpeedFan exit, it resets ATI Radeon Manual Fan Control back to the state it had when SpeedFan was started. Please, contact me by email (alfredo [at] almico.com) if you want to try the beta. |
