Summary0001935: Speedfan takes long time to scan older nVidia hardware
DescriptionHello alfredo,

i noticed that Speedfan takes long time to scan SMB on older nVidia Hardware - i think because of not supported functions. I will describe it by taking two examples:

1. Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe (socket A) with GeForce2 MX400, Speedfan takes 5-10 minutes to start completely - it's scanning nVidia SMB that long, i guess. During the 5-10 minutes CPU-usage is 100% and the System interacts very slow. I think it's double-acting because of NV chipset and graphics card.

2. ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA (LGA 775) with GeForce2 MX400. Speedfan takes nearly a minute to start completely, but sending a report (and scanning NV SMB) takes more than 10 minutes. In this case i will upload the debug.nfo.

Speedfan also shows 0°C for GPU, but this Chip doesn't have a sensor as far as i know.

Maybe you care about this old hardware!? I do. Sometimes i build up some PCs with older hardware and one of the first things i do after installing Windows 98SE, 2000, XP, 2003 or 7 is to equip them with Speedfan.

If you need some other informations (for example debug.nfo of the first system) just give me a hint.

best wishes
KIDH

BTW: Thank you for all the years with Speedfan, you're doin a really good job!

Can you upload DEBUG.NFO for the Asus too?

I have to reinstall it, maybe i got it until tomorrow. Last time i installed it, it was not that odd...maybe it was the replaced HDD, which had some bad S.M.A.R.T attributes...I'll try it again with the new HDD.

Thanks

OK...I reinstalled it the last hours...it's the same as described above. After Windows startup it took 4:25 minutes CPU time and if I want to send a report (I didn't click on "send report" after the scan had finished) it takes 17:38 minutes...after the whole procedure SpeedFan took 21:03 minutes CPU time.

On the A7N8X-E Deluxe works a Athlon XP 2000+ (1667 MHz, Thoroughbred) with 2x 1 GB A-Data Vitesta DDR500. I installed WinXP SP3 with all updates and used the latest drivers available (5.10 for nForce2, Forceware 93.71 for GeForce2 MX400, also latest drivers for other components). There are no hardware conflicts on that machine and no other software was running in the background, it's just a clean Windows installation with SpeedFan.

There are also three odd temperatures: Temp3: -1C, Temp: 127C, GPU: 0C (GPU as mentioned above).

debug2.nfo is uploaded, hope this helps to figure out what's the problem.

BTW: I will build up many PCs with older motherboards (socket 7, A, 370, 478, slot 1 and slot A) next time, shall I send you reports of them, maybe that will help you!?

best regards
KIDH
