Summary | 0001755: HDD controller error and small lockup at speedfan startup with S.M.A.R.T scan. | ||||
Description | Sorry if this has been posted before and is being worked on, but I could not find anything. When starting up speedfan with admin rights, so it does a SMART scan at startup, if something else uses the HDD at the same time as the scan it temporarily crashes my HDD controller. I have attached the speedfan startup scan events and the Windows event about the controller below. Currently I am using the latest Intel RST driver, but the same thing happens with the default Microsoft driver and previous Intel drivers. The only difference is the amount of time the HDD controller locks up for. The error also seems to be focused on my Intel X25M G2 160GB SDD driver as the Microsoft driver reports which ever port this drive is on as the offending port that generated the error. I have tried the driver on multiple ports and with multiple cables, and it tests 100% fine with other tools. Since it is my OS driver it would be quite noticeable if it was not working properly. For the moment I run Speedfan with normal user rights so it does not worry about SMART, and I have no issues. Let me know what further detail I can provide as far as logs, etc. To help diagnose this issue. Again the main annoyance is that I have speedfan set to start with windows, so cannot control if there is other HDD activity when the drivers are being scanned by speedfan. This is also the case if I get speedfan to start after windows has fully started, as again you cannot guarantee no process will want HDD access when speedfan is running. Does 4.43 beta fix this issue? |
Have not tried 4.43 beta yet. Will test with it now. But have for the last week been using the /noadvsmartscan option and have had no errors / lockups all week. |
Then 4.43 will fix the issue. |
with 4.43 Beta 12 and 'Do smart summary error log scan on startup' un-ticked I now don't get the issue for the last couple of weeks. If left ticketed I do still get the errors and freezes. |
SpeedFan 4.43 without that option explicitly set completely fixes the issue. |
