| Description | Running both Win7 32-bit and 64 bit on same PC. In 32-bit, Speedfan shortcut in Startup folder caused it to be launched with Windows. In 64-bit, same setup results in NO launch. Have reduced UAC to lowest level (as a test); still no launch. | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | Add shortcut for SpeedFan to default startup folder: \User\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\ Double-click icon to confirm that SpeedFan launches Click approval popup but lower UAC to lowest level Exit and restart PC Wait for a while and confirm that Speedfan is NOT running. | ||||

Please use the Windows Task Scheduler to start Speedfan automatically with elevated privileges. |

OK, I'll give that a try and report back. Thanks for the quick response. Update: Added it to task manager, set it to run with highest privileges. Task manager says it's running -- but I know it's not. |

Do you mean that you have added it to the task scheduler? So you added the startup task and task manager shows the process, but you can't see Speedfan in your taskbar/tray? |

Kind of ... Task Scheduler shows the task as "running" but there's no icon in the system tray and Task Manager does not list it in the set of running processes. When I then click the desktop icon shortcut, I get the UAC panel, OK that, and the icon does show up in the tray. |

Have you deleted the entry in the start up folder? What are your settings for the task? Can you enter the path that you specified for your task under "Run"? Does Speedfan start then? |

I have deleted the entry from the startup folder. The task setting are: Name: speedfan Location: \ Description: Starts speedfan Trigger: At system startup Actions: Start a program "C:\Program Files (x86)\SpeedFan\speedfan.exe" Settings: allow task to be run on demand, In the running task does not end when requested, force it to stop When I enter the path from the shortcut, two things happen: 1) Task starts 2) Does NOT display the HDD SMART info at all When I double-click the same desktop shortcut, two things happen: 1) UAC prompt appears 2) Displays ALL the temps, including the HDD Smart temps |

Please try user log on instead of system startup (for the task) and check "run with highest privileges" if it's not yet selected. It's normal that Speedfan doesn't show HDD data when run without admin rights (your first scenario) Since the path works fine, the problem can't be Speedfan. So the cause is probably the task settings. |
