Is there anything I can do to help? I'm running ~12vm's and 5 dynamips instances which run wonderfully...heat is my only problem and Dell in its infinate wisdom never lets this laptop's fan's spin full tilt. So I'm desperate for Speed Fan to at least allow me to run them wide open but hopefully with a much more aggressive dynamic profile. Speed Fan worked great on my previous laptop which was a Dell Latitude D830. But Speed Fan doesn't even detect the fans on this Precision M6500. In fact the only application that I've found that can even detect the fans is AIDA64, but it can't control them. I've sent in multiple reports, please let me know if there's anything else I can to do help shed some light on this. You have a 64 bit OS at the moment. SpeedFan would work fine on your hardware if you had a 32 bit OS. I am working on this. |

I understand, almost all of my frustration stems from the fact that Dell appears to care more about fan noise then cooling...sorry for taking that out on you. I've hit thermal trip a few times now and both fans we're spinning at 0000004:0000050% of their capacity. FWIW there appears to be a hidden Dell Engineering mode on many of their laptops. To get in it you need to be at the actual laptop keyboard and then do the following: Hold Fn+Shift then hit 15324 Release Fn+Shift Hold Fn+Shift then hit r I use this often because I can manually set both fans to their maximum RPM which keeps my laptop quite cool under extreme loads...the main drawbacks of this are: 1. Does not survive reboot 2. It messes with VMware Workstation Do all Microsfts 64bit OS's suffer the same fate with SpeedFan or just Win 7? Any ETA on 64bit support? If not and you had to guess would you say that it would be closer to 1 year or 1 month? |

SpeedFan can't currently support DELL SMI on any 64 bit system. Everything else works fine. I would say one month :-) |
