Product Version | 4.41 beta
Summary | 0001594: Dell Latitude E5500, constructor starting: priviledged instruction and non-functional
Description | SpeedFan is able to detect Core 2 CPU temps and SMART HDD info when run on Windows 7 in Dell Latitude E5500, with Intel 4500MHD. When I enable Dell Notebook support (to get advanced info such as DIMM temperature, fan speed, GPU temperature ... etc.) and restart the program, it popups "Priviledged instruction" dialog box and then it stops initializing and program is non-functional. Opening options dialog in this state gives: Access violation at address 0064DD83 in module 'speedfan.exe'. Read of address 00000038. Exiting the program also gives the exact same error. This happens on the latest stable version 4.4 and the latest beta. It is interesting to note that this exact same setup works on XP SP3 (no crash in Dell constructor) and the advanced info is properly read. It seems that GIVEIO on XP is able to read the sensor without crashing, but on Windows 7 without GIVEIO it doesn't work (and speedfan seems to not want to use GIVEIO in WIndows7). Is there a way to force speedfan to use GIVEIO on WIndows 7 (32-bit). What ill effect could happen if done ? This was tested with Run as Administrator on speedfan.exe
Steps To Reproduce | Windows 7 32-bit on Dell Latitude E5500. Install speedfan, run as administrator, enable Dell Constructor and restart it (also run as administrator).
Additional Information | - On XP works fine with GIVEIO. - SPTD is installed with Daemon Tools. - IDT Audio driver from Dell v6.10.0.6227 - GMA4500MHD driver from Intel v8.15.10.2104
