Summary0001512: HDD not detected by win 7
DescriptionActually 4.40 final version, but that choice not offered. But problem was exactly the same with 4.38. Problem does not occur in windows XP (this is a multiboot system).

In windows 7 HDD are not detected (no listing in temp config page, no hdd shown in smart page, no hdd in advanced tab) unless speedfan is opened "as administrator."

However when run as administrator, user account control interrupts to ask permission. This interrupts startup when speedfan shortcut is placed in the startup menu.

User access control is set to the lowest setting above "never notify." Or: Of the 4 levels, with never defined as 1 and highest as 4, I have UAC set to 2.

Is there a way to have speedfan show hdd and also avoid a user account control interrupt, just like many other installed programs.

Or more narrowly is there a way place speedfan in startup sequence but not trigger user account control. [Some programs have a checkbox to add them to startup menu which manages to avoid UAC interrupt, even though open from desktop still trigger UAC.
Steps To ReproduceIf opened with "run as administrator" checked in speedfan.exe properties or by right clicking to select run as adminstrator, then user account control always asks for permission to run and speedfan detects hdd.

If "run as administrator" is not checked in properties nor selected with right clcik, then user account control never asks for permission and speedfan never detects hdd.

100% repeatable.
Additional InformationThis may be unrelated, but when opened "Run as administrator" speedfan saves config (which sensors are displayed for example) separately from when run run not as administrator. In other words, changes made from one open mode do not show up when opened in the other mode. Odd. As-admin saves the three .cfgs and debug.nfo in C:\Program Files (x86)\SpeedFan\, while not-as-admin saves them in C:\Users\Gregg user\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\SpeedFan\

To read HDD temps and SMART values admin privileges are always necessary when running Vista or Win7.
If you use the Windows Task Scheduler to start Speedfan with Windows and admin privileges, everything should work great and there should not be any UAC popups.

It took a few tries to get the settings right for the new speedfan startup task, but it does work. HDDs are displayed and no UAC popup during startup. Thanks.
