Summary | 0001439: Explorers Crashing/Locking Up
Description | About a month ago, I installed 4 programs at the same time. One of them was the 4.38 speedfan update. One other change was up until then, I only used Speedfan to check temp. At that time, I was using it minimized so that the temp was always displayed on task bar. This is when Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer started randomly crashing or locking up. I've now spent the last week uninstalling, updating, reinstalling all 4 progams. It is now conclusive that that Speedfan when run in tray was causing the problem. I no longer run it in the tray and the lockups/crashes have stopped. Also, Windows explorer is now much more responsive. There were minor pauses before it would react to anything before. With Speedfan not running, everything happens instantaneously.
Steps To Reproduce | Run speedfan from tray. Open IE (8) and close several times. Open folders & drives in Windows Explorer. A couple hours later, the system freezes.
