Summary0001406: SMART monitoring for SATA drives on SB750 in AHCI mode
DescriptionNo SMART monitoring for SATA drives on SB750 in AHCI mode

Motherboard has 2 SATA controllers, 6 ports on SB750, and 2 on the gigabyte SATA controller.

The 2 on the GB controller are in IDE mode and work fine when I run as admin.

I'm assuming this is a driver issue but in another report alfredo noted that he had SMART working with AHCI/SB750 combo.

Thanks in advance.

I purchased an expensive motherboard with this chipset and I'm doing my best to add support for it in RAID mode, but it won't be easy. Any suggestion is welcome.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, raid mode isn't my specific problem.. It's AHCI mode...can you clue me in on which drivers you got it working with?

This is a note from another issue (0001365):
"I purchased a 790GX/SB750 motherboard. SpeedFan properly accesses SMART data when the system is configured in IDE, SATA or AHCI mode. If configured in RAID mode SpeedFan is unable to access SMART data, but this should be common to almost every other similar tool."

Windows driver issue seems to be the only place left to look.. smartmontools in linux can read all the information for all drives in ahci mode. Any further specific information on drivers anyone has used to get this working would be appreciated.

UPDATE: After putting the two HDDs on the Gigabyte SATA controller in AHCI mode and reinstalling drivers for it, AdvSMART found those two drives, which previously could not be found. (I've now updated from the beta you sent me (4.39b5.1) to 4.39b7 as well.)

Also I have now noticed that windows is listing the four drives that have missing SMART as SCSI devices. (similar issue which someone found a workaround for with nvidia chipset here: http://www.lavalys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2378 ) Trying to work out how to remedy this...

Ok, Sorry for the trouble, After farting with the bios, hosing windows 7 a couple of times by screwing with the drivers, I've finally got everything working with
the "Standard ACHI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller" Driver. Thanks for looking into it.

I had to manually delete all the AMD ahci drivers from the system32 directory (and sub dirs)

Speedfan does hang for about 50 seconds on startup now though. (this is not normal) It also lists my drives incorrectly in terms of size/name ..see this comparison.. http://imgur.com/btDCx.png

Again, thanks for looking into it even though ultimately it was nothing to do with your software!

The problem with the fan controls (Speed01 and Speed03 both controlling HS fan) still persists however. I'd be glad to start a new report and document it in any way you need.

@QB1971
Could you, please, upload here (there is a button for this task) DEBUG.NFO from SpeedFan's directory?
Thank you.
