I assume you already used RUN AS ADMIN. |
I just sent you a tool to run. |
Did you receive the tool? |
Any news? |
I received your report and I'm afraid that it is the driver that is not supporting SMART. |
I purchased a 790GX based system with the SB750 SouthBridge to work on your issue. I installed a single disk and both in IDE and AHCI mode SpeedFan properly accesses SMART data. What is your hard disk configuration in BIOS? |
Update: I purchased a 790GX/SB750 motherboard. SpeedFan properly accesses SMART data when the system is configured in IDE, SATA or AHCI mode. If configured in RAID mode SpeedFan is unable to access SMART data, but this should be common to almost every other similar tool. |
I'm closing this issue because a more generic one has appeared and because of the lack of answers. |
Sorry that you got no answer from me, but I never get notitfyed by e-mail from this forum since today(31.5.09)? Your Question was my BIOS configuration: With AHCI Mode in BIOS I get no SMART access (I dont use RAID). Now I changed to IDE Mode an Speedfan/SMART works fine (Same with HD-Tune). I have this Problem with MA78GPM-DS2H, MA78GM-UD2H and MA69GM-S2H (all Gigabytes with ATI and AMD chipset). I can try driver updates next time, if something changes I will post it here ... |
I had this same problem (report 1406). I had to delete the AMD AHCI drivers, so that windows would stop trying to use them. "Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller" is name of the driver now being used if you want to manually change the driver. |
Thanks, is the "Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller" a Windows/Microsoft driver? |
yes..it is a MS driver. Driver details lists: msahci.sys, atapi.sys, ataport.sys, and pciidex.sys. I think the best thing to do is manually remove all the amd drivers and let windows figure it out (wishful thinking maybe), because to be truthful, i'm not sure which device in device manager you would need force to use these drivers. I managed to make windows unbootable a couple times during trying to fix this by forcing the wrong driver/device. In windows7: I deleted all the amd ahci drivers (anything with both ahci and amd64 in the directory name, yours may be under amd32) from the system32\DriverStore\FileRepository directory (you might have to do this from a bootdisk or another os). After that windows was able to load the functioning driver. |
what happened? any luck? |
I give you feedback when I have tested ... |
Try to download RAIDExpert from AMD, I've been told it has an option to enable SMART. I will try to verify this |
Because my system is running stable in IDE mode now i have decided not to test the MS drivers ... But if AMD-RAIDExpert will enable SMART function(?) i will test this. But i had other problems with AHCI-Mode: - HDD sleep mode do not work on my system (energy options in XP: shutdown HDDs after xxx minutes). - Disconnecting eSATA-Drives from the hardware-systray-icon is not possible because (e)SATA-Drives are not listed there (like USB-HDDs,-Sticks,...). ??? How can I use eSATA ??? - My LG-BluRay-Tool, that looks for new firmware, can not find my LG-BluRay-SATA-Drive, i have to switch to IDE mode. - Some other tools that access SATA-DVD/BluRay-Drives do not work. |
