Summary0001385: no fan control with IT8720
Description- the rpm is correct now, but it seems that i cannot control any fanspeed with speedfan
- no manual nor automatic control (the "power" % changes, but nothing happens with the fans)
Additional Information- with version 4.37, i got some strange rpm for the cpu (16 to 23 instead of 1000 tot 1500)
- installed 4.38 beta, and the rpm is correct now, but no fan control
- fan control works with a program from asus called "q-fan"

it works:
- disable q-fan (software)
- in speedfan: configure > advanced tab > select chip IT8720F:
set PWM mode to "software controlled" (instead of smartguardian)

fan1=cpu, fan2=chasis1, fan3=chasis2
speed2=cpu, speed3=chassis1-2
(for me, speed01 doesn't do anything)

you can see the configuration in the attatched image

but there is an issue this asus EPU software (power/performance adjusting program):
every time the EPU state is switched (by user or auto), the speedfan setting in advanced tab > switches back from "software controlled" to "smartguardian" and fanspeed control is off again ...

maybe deinstalling this software will help, i'll test it tomrrow

According to your reports it looks to me that there are two different tools that are applying changes to the same object. There is little I can do. Either choose one or the other for the task of controlling fan speeds.

yes, it appears that this motherboard EPU software has some influence on the fans:
it doesn't actally control the speed, but sets the min/max speedrange (for q-fan) depending on the powerscheme ...

anyway, i uninstalled it and everything is working fine (also cool'n'quiet)
... now i'll just let speedfan do its magic :)

thanks for this fine program
