| Description | This was addressed in problem 1006, but I don't think the resolution is correct. The resolution says that if a 3-pin fan is put on the 4-pin cpu fan header then the other chasis fans cannot be controled. I have a 4-pin fan on the cpu fan header and can control this fan with Speedfan. However, I cannot control the other 3 fans I have on the chasis fan headers. Speedfan reports their RMP's and tries to control their speed, but they stay at 100% even when Speedfan shows 50%. I have been able to control these fans using Speedfan on another mother board. | ||||

Have you updated your BIOS to the latest version? Q-Fan should be disabled in the BIOS to get control of the fans. Unfortunatly, the P5K-E seems to be a little buggy. There are several reports like that and I wasn't able to find the cause. It cannot be Speedfan because the same Winbond chip is used on many other Asus Boards of the P5B, P5K, and P5Q series and they all work fine. On the other hand, for many other users it works perfectly with the P5K-E. |

As norman02us says, SpeedFan can properly use your hardware monitor chip to change fan speeds on other motherboards. Please, note that, in order to be able to change fan speeds on a motherboard: 1) a hardware monitor chip that can change fan speeds is needed 2) there must be the proper circuitry on the motherboard 3) the correct fan type must be installed 4) the hardware monitor chip must be properly configured. |

Please, note that you should try to go as low as 0% because there is no guarantee that the fan control is linear. |

Thank you for the replies. I am using BIOS version 1012 (recent, but may not be the newest). I have the BIOS fan controls disabled. I have controlled these fans with Speedfan on another motherboard. Has anyone successfuly controlled their chassis fans on a P5K-E with Speedfan? |

Yes. Several people have reported that chassis fan control works on the P5K-E. |
