What Mainboard are you using? Where did you attach which fan? Have you tried the lastest Beta of Speedfan? |
I'm using ASUS K8N-E mainboard, cpu fan is attached to cpu fan connection. Case fans are connected to PWR_FAN and CHA_FAN. I'm using SpeedFan 4.34 beta 40 |
According to the motherboard manual, only the CPU_FAN can be controlled. What fan are you using on that connection? Just 3pin or are you using any adapter? Can you control the fan speed (cpu fan) with the BIOS? Have you tried disabling Q-Fan cotrol? |
I'm using a Zalman CNPS9700NT controled through the bios, Q-Fan enabled. Prior to this it was a stock AMD heat sink and fan no Q-Fan. Q-Fan control enabled or disabled makes no difference. I had the same result using a ASUS K8S-MX with stock heat sink and fan. |
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but according to the K8N-E manual it does not have a 4pin CPU-connector that is necessary to control the PWM-Fan of the 9700NT. |
You are somewhat correct, the K8N-E is a 3pin and the 9700NT is a 4pin.I'm not using the PWM side of the 4pin plug (usually Intel),I'm using the bios Q-Fan to control the fan speed it works well. I've never seen CPU temperatures above 38c while playing games ie. Crysis, Fear, Half-Life 2 ect. Q-Fan maybe the reason I'm not able to control the CPU fan, although I wasn't able to control the CPU fan prior to using Q-FAN either. |
Just to get it correct: You're using a 4pin fan on a 3pin header and it works fine when controlled by BIOS but it doesn't work with Speedfan? Have you tried "DC output" in the "Advanced" menu? |
If Q-Fan can change any fan speed, then you should be able to disable Q-Fan in BIOS and select the correct settings in CONFIGURE / ADVANCED to let you change fan speeds using SpeedFan. Usually this requires setting PWM MODE to something like SOFTWARE or MANUAL. Depending on the specific motherboard you might need to set DC OUTPUT. Once you have found the correct configuration, use REMEMBER IT to reapply it whenever you start SpeedFan. |
Changing from SmartGuardian to software controlled in CONFIGURE/ADVANCED PWM 1 mode allows me to change the fan speed. Don't know why I hadn't noticed the SmartGuardian control before. Disabling Q-Fan wasn't necessary. Thanks All |
