Summary0001085: Installed speedfan last night (02.24.2008) Now CPU fan does not work at all
DescriptionWhen I installed speedfan, it said that my processor's operating temperature was a steady, cool 91 degrees (F). I was happy with that! Closed the lid on the thing, it goes into standby. I open it up this morning and the fan never comes on. speedfan reports the cpu temp getting up to 175 degrees (F)!!! I don't believe that's a good thing. Anyhow, I call IBM and they said the cpu fan should come on at 95 degrees (F). It doesn't. Help? Had NO PROBLEMS before installing this program. IBM says that it's my CPU or the Motherboard. Everything worked fine before I installed speedfan. Took the fan out and hooked direct power to it- it works and I'm stumped. Thanks for your time. ATB

Which SpeedFan version did you use?
Did you change anything in CONFIGURE / ADVANCED?
Did you try to remove the battery and the power cable for a few minutes?
Please, upload here the result of a SEND REPORT (INFO tab).

Ended up reinstalling operating system two weeks ago. Fan works fine now as it used to. No clue as to what the problem was. I can only GUESS that it was a problem with the Speedfan Program- can't say for sure. And to finally answer the version question: I believe it was 4.33 (?)

Well, I would really like to know if there is anything I need to do to avoid this issue in the future, but I'm not sure that it was due to SpeedFan. Usually, if an OS reinstall is needed, then it wasn't a SpeedFan issue, as SpeedFan does nothing that an OS can fix. Which is your exact laptop model? If you upload here a report from any other tool (cpu-z would do, I think) that can read the DMI name of the laptop I will check the reports I received and see if there is anything that can go wrong. Of course, the best option would be to use the SEND REPORT button that SpeedFan has on its INFO tab, but I understand if you do not want to run it.
Consider that if you run SpeedFan with

/NOPCISCAN /NOISASCAN /NOSMARTSCAN /NOSMBSCAN /NOSUPERIO

command line parameters then SpeedFan will access basically nothing and it can really do no harm to your PC.
