Summary | 0001051: Desktop fans sometimes get stuck without SpeedFan
Description | I have sent a couple of emails to Alfredo regarduing this problem and I have not receieved the feedback. I have the probelm with my desktop fans (CPU, Case, and PSU) where they get stuck at certain speed and, therefore, I decided to run SpeedFan and I have discovered the following:
Steps To Reproduce | 1. With SpeedFan configured AND the "Automatic fan speed" checked, the fans of the desktop behave normally and they DO NOT get stuck at higher speed over several days of operation. 2. Once the desktop is reset by retarting windows, I experience the problem with the desktop fans where they get stuck at higher speed (67% or 100%) and they are never reset to idle speed when the CPU is at idle and ALL temps are normal (CPU, Case, and HDD are all below 40 deg C).
Additional Information | I'm trying to figure out what SpeedFan (automatic fan speed function) does to the system so it runs normally and why the system does not run normally without SpeedFan configuration. Many thanks for your prompt feedback.

It seems that I have lost the section "Steps to reproduce" of this report. So, I list it here: 1. With SpeedFan configured AND the "Automatic fan speed" checked, the fans of my desktop behave normally and they DO NOT get stuck at higher speed (RPM of 67% or 100%). 2. Once the desktop is reset by retarting windows, I experience the problem with the desktop fans where they get stuck at higher speed and they are never reset to idle speed when the CPU is at idle and ALL temps (Case, CPU, and HDD) are below 40 deg C. |

When a system is rebooted, the chip that handles hardware monitoring is reset by the BIOS. SpeedFan changes can't survive this. |

Thank you for your reply. Are suggesting that the BIOS is NOT setting up the chip correctly upon restart? If so, how could that be rectified? What does SpeedFan do when I configure the Automatic fan speed? Does it change any BIOS settings? I'm currently using teh updated BIOS COMPAQ - 20020729686Y2 v3.04. I reverted to the original BIOS and I had experienced the same problem. I had already contacted HP/Compaq with a copy of ADM1028 Data Sheet with my suspesion of the BIOS but they suggested to have the desktop hardware inspected by their service center. Regards. |

Hello Alfredo, I |

Although this forum is intended mainly for SpeedFan bug tracking issues, I believe the sponsor is responsible to providing some answers to the queries rasied by the members who are entitled for feedback. Otherwise, the users should be informed from the beginning that they should not expect any feedback or answers from this lousy forum. |
