DescriptionFan speed control does not work on the main CPU Fan or the other system fans.
CPU Usage is not shown and apears to be for only one core not two.

The following error message appears in the Readings Tab text window
ERROR collecting CPU Usage : 1 (Unable to read performance data)

I have tried turning the BIOS cool n quiet on and off but this does not appear to make any difference.
Additional InformationThe motherboard CPU fan connector is a 4 pin header, I have 3 pin connector from the header to the CPU fan.

I built a comp for a friend with this mobo a month ago and usually sent report with the current beta (from tom_at_w@i.hu) I don't remember if the fans could be controlled or not but I am sure I haven't experienced CPU usage collecting problems with the current beta. Hope it helps you Alfredo.

@lupins : do you have the AMD processor driver installed?

I downloaded the latest drivers but I'm not sure if I installed the processor driver, somewhere on AMD's site I read that it was built into Vista.

3-pin Fan connected to 4-pin CPU_FAN is not speed controllable on ASUS motherboards. But it usually works on other fan headers.

I have copy and pasted this info for you.

No ASUS Motherboard support 3-pin CPU Fan control. Only 4-pin fans can be controlled. You can find this information on ASUS webbsite (Support and I believe also the FAQ). I actually noticed this on my ASUS Commando a while ago and reported about this on the SPCR forums. That is probably why somebody asked ASUS and got the dissapointing answer.

YOU CAN NOT USE CPU_FAN control on any ASUS motherboards with 3-pin fans connected. Also CPU Q-Fan will not work with anything else than 4-pin fans. Period.
Edit: Asus "Deluxe" motherboards sometimes have a DC choice for CPU_FAN in BIOS. So the Deluxe boards might be an exception. They might have speed control for 3-pin fans although their CPU_FAN connector is 4-pin.

Solution: Use another fan connector, or another motherboard (non ASUS), or a 4-pin fan.

ASUS have not included any option for DC-regulation (3-pin fan support) for the CPU fan. Only works in PWM mode. The PWM regulation (fan control) is done through the 4th pin.

Whence you can't control any 3-pin fan (DC-controlled) on the CPU_FAN connector on any fairly new ASUS motherboard. The 3-pins are
- (Black pin 1) GND
- (Red pin 2) "12V" or whatever voltage the speed control on the MB gives it, it is usually constant 12V when connected to a 4-pin CPU_FAN connector.
- (Yellow or Blue? pin 3) RPM monitoring.

I have a 3 pin Fan connected to the 4 pin connector and I can control it just fine. This is my CPU fan - it can be controlled with "Speed 2"
However I can not controll 3 pin fans connected to the other two connectors on the motherboard which are 3 pin connectors, chasis fan and pwr fan. Would be great of Alfredo could make it so we can control all the fans. Email me if more info is need, I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Are you running Windows Vista ? If so, try running Speedfan with Administrator persmissions (right click "Run as Administrator"). This might solve your CPU usage problem.

I believe the answer to my asus speed control issue is clarified is these threads from all of you.I am attempting to control an ASUS M2N68-LA MB that has (2) fan headers both are (3 pin) with a (3) pin fan(s).If there is a fix which is it?
If I procure a 4 pin fan will it work on this ASUS 3 pin board ???

I assumed that the 3rd pin on the fan was a an auxiliary function (control or scensing) where the primary 2 leads (BLK)and (RED) were ground and power respectively. If the 3rd (BLU)lead is not for control isn't it mute?

All my 3-pin connectors (7 of them on my Asus Commando) are speed controllable.
The only connector that isn't speed controllable is my "8th" connector, the 4-pin CPU_FAN one.

So chris6521 this might be special to your MB "ASUS M2N68-LA".
Very strange.

My 3rd lead (yellow on my fan and you say it's blue on yours) is for speed monitoring. The fan will put out a voltage on it that is proportional to it's fan speed. The MB use that voltage to determine what speed the fan has.
