Summary | 0000825: 1 out of the 2 speed control works, from time to time
Description | In my PC, I use the 2 outputs of the Winbond 83627HF, one is controlling two fans (CPU and system), and one is controlling the Power supply. But in some conditions, the second one (PWM2) is stuck to 0 (as shown by Speedfan, and the fan doesn't run), while the other output (PWM1) is working well. Originally everything was working well, and this lasted two monthes. But then I noticed that the second fan was stuck to 0 (I have checked that the fan is OK, by changing the connection on the motherboard). What I don't understand, is that in certain conditions, the second output works, but I don't know why : --> when the PC temperature is becoming very high, this output is turned to 100%, and the fan is turning at maximum speed, but it stops after a while --> then in that conditions, Speedfan can take the full control again, and is regulating the speed very well --> but then, after a while, fan speed is again stuck to 0 (todays situation)

In order to make things clearer, I took snapshots of screen of logged data. It appears clearly that the PWM2 started at a certain time, a full speed, then was regulated by speedfan, up to a certain time, when it stopped ! Really strange : I think that some settings (of higher priority) made the PWM2 linked to some temperature security, which makes Speedfan unable to control the speed at the same time, except when the security unlock the situation. |
|
In addition, here is a specific behavior I noticed : When I switch off the computer when PWM2 is running, when I restart the computer, the PWM2 is running again. After a while, the PWM2 stops, even if Speedfan is desactivated. I conclude that there is another program which controls PWM2 (start/stop), but I don't know which. I suspect a BIOS control. |

The bug is found, and Speedfan is not the cause ! : it is a silly question of hardware. When I changed the fan in the power supply, I didn't put the wires correctly, and one of them was trapped between two metal pieces. Then from time to time, the wire was conducting or not. You can close the issue ! |
