Summary0000670: Fan control for non-pwm fans connected to PWM header on asus p5 boards
Descriptionhi,

i've connected a 3 pin fan to the cpu fan header on my asus p5w64 board.

the asus utils seem to be able to control the speed fine.

but speedfan doesn't... i can control the (3-pin) chassis fans...but just not the cpu one.

I have another board (same model) with the standard intel cpu cooler (4 pin pwn fan) which works fine...

any help?

Please, UPLOAD a SEND REPORT (INFO tab). Do you mean that, while in the same session, if you run the Asus tool you can change fan speeds, but that you can't using SpeedFan? What if you run Asus tool and then you run SpeedFan while it's open? Can you change fan speeds?

please close, works fine with latest bios and fan control set to DC (you must enable a fan speed profile, but its ok asspeedfan will override)

It still doesn't work with a P5B Deluxe Board.

norman,

do you have the fan controller set to DC in the BIOS?

this must be done on my p5w64 board for speedfan to control it.

On the P5B Deluxe there is no DC Option.

See this thread for some info on this issue

(the board is formatting the url incorrectly; just paste the above url and remove the space[^] before the question mark)

I have not tested my motherboard P5B Premium with PC Probe but it would be interesting to see if it can control the 3 pin CPU fan.

I would like to add here that I am unable to use SpeedFan on the P5B Premium motherboard; it locks up the pc if left running :(
