Summary0000487: Init of Speedfan Hangs when trying to detect Smart on my system Disk
DescriptionMy Boot disk(SATA, ST3120026A) has an reproducable failure when trying to read Smart values with any smart-tool, thus hanging windows, smartfan, and all tasks which need access to the disk.
smart tools with selectable drives work with my old ATA disk, so i should install the os on the old disk to make use of smartfan?
Is it possible to skip SMART detection(for some HDs)because I was not able to start SF.
Steps To ReproduceStarting SF, hangs always, OS hangs too.

I have detected the parameter /nosmartscan in another forum topic, now I can start it!
all seems to work fine, only CPU temp is read as -128 degrees celsius, but the correct temp value is found in 'remote', so there is no problem.

thanks for this fine tool,

Mr Monstar

I have just installed the driver package
"nForce4_amd_6.70_winxp2k_international.exe" thus solving all problems with SMART and write caching.
(I have only installed the IDE Drivers (only one of 4) as my OEM FUJITSU SIEMENS A8NE-FM Board doesnt have nvidia audio and lan chips.
i wasnt sure to install the SMB driver part, because of my OEM BIOS.

You found the proper command line switch. And you found the actual culprit too. It looks like that newer hard disk drivers are now fixing this issue.
