Summary | 0000458: Fan speed goes to 100% after suspend and resume
Description | Hi I have a small problem with Speedfan that I hope you can help me with. I have the CPU fan (fan 2) speed set in the BIOS to 53%, and when I boot the machine and speedfan starts it recognises this and the fan speed remains correct. However, if I suspend then machine and then resume the fans start spinning at 100%. It seems that this occurs when speedfan becomes active, as on resume the fans initially spin at the slower speen for a second or two before speeding up. I have disabled "Set fans to 100% on exit". Other than this problem Speedfan does exactly when I want, so I hope you can help me with this. Thanks Neil
Steps To Reproduce | 1. Set fan speed in BIOS to 53% 2. Boot machine - speedfan starts automatically and fan shows as 53% 3. Suspend machine 4. Resume machine - fans now spin at 100%
Additional Information | I've submitted 2 reports with logs from speedfan - the first after a cold boot when the fan is at the correct speed, and the second after suspending and resuming when the fan is at 100%

Which is your hardware monitor chip? If you want a fixed speed for your fan, you can simply instruct SpeedFan to set it to 53% as the maximum SPEED. This gives you an additional feature: SpeedFan will always put all fans to 100% if any temperature exceeds WARNING values. |

I have what appears to be the same problem, using SpeedFan 4.32 on a Shuttle SN25P system (hardware monitoring chips are an IT8712F and an ADT7463; the problem affects fans controlled by either chip). I've confirmed that the problem is specifically with SpeedFan (if SpeedFan is not running, the fans stay at their previous speed after suspend and resume), and that it doesn't seem to matter what the BIOS setting for fan speed is. I've tried setting maximum speed values within SpeedFan, but this doesn't seem to have any effect: the fans still go to 100% after suspend and resume, even if the maximum speed has been set much lower than that. Like yod9999, it seems to me that the fans spin up at a lower (the regular?) speed for a second or two while the system is resuming, then speed up to 100% about the time the Windows unlock screen appears. I haven't submitted any diagnostic reports yet - please let me know if you'd like me to do so. |

Reminder sent to: alfredo Problem still present on current version and different hardware; further information provided. |
