Summary0000439: Fans no longer controlled
DescriptionSpeedfan always worked correctly, with no problems until recently when it stopped working.

Can see all values (fan speeds, temps etc.) and config looks like it always did.
The auto speed control box is checked -- speed valies stay at 100%, don't change at all. Changing the values has no effect on the fan speed(s).

Everything works except the speed control.
Downloaded latest version - no difference.

(Wonder if this is related to XP updates???)

Verified that bios can adjust fan speed - works ok.
Steps To ReproduceStart Speedfan.

I had a similar problem after I reinstalled WinXP -- worked before, but not after. Turned out that the motherboard driver that was used in the reinstall was using a version that didn't fully support the smbus (maybe). I do know for sure that once I installed the newest motherboard chipset driver, fan control returned to normal. Same with the IDE driver -- the older version didn't support SMART, but the newest IDE driver allowed Speedfan to read the SMART info.

FYI - my motherboard uses the nForce2 chipset and the drivers I ended using were from nVidia's site.
Hope this helps!

Depending on your BIOS, you might need to enter CONFIGURE / ADVANCED and set PWM MODE to MANUAL or SOFTWARE CONTROLLED.
