Summary | 0000407: asrock 939Dual-SATAII fan speed control doesn't work.
Description | asrock 939Dual-SATAII fan speed control doesn't work. temps and fan speeds are reported correctly, however the fans are not controllable. Changing the speed has no effect on the fans.
Steps To Reproduce | attempt to reduce fanspeed in application. observe that rpms do not change.
Additional Information | you still rock anyway!

Same here. I have the ASRock 939Dual-SATA2, with an A64 3200. I have setup and configured Speedfan 4.27. Speedfa reports the %'s moving up and down to the min and max that I have setup in Config>Speeds. But the rpm's move at whatever speed they want to. At idle, the CPU fan moves at about 4000rpm. At high loads, the CPU fan moves at a noisy 6000rpm. I'm not concerned about the high load, but the idle load doesn't need to be at 4000rpm (CPU temp +/- 30C). Obviously, something other than Speedfan is controlling the speed of the CPU fan, so that tells me the CPU fan can be controlled. I went into Config>Advanced, but I don't have options like PWM 1, PWN 2, etc., which should be set to Software Control. |

i've not seen my machine change the speed ever, even with cool-n-quiet on. however, i may not have ever really pushed my system heatwise, i have an all Aluminum case that i built for minimal heat, so i could try keep the noise down on my media pc. my stock amd cpu fan sits at 3245rpm. like you i don't have the options you mention either. I believe something is controlling the CPU fan speed and not allowing Speedfan to do so. But I don't see any options in the BIOS to control fan speeds. Try to load up your machine by running something intensive. I think I did 3dmark05 or I loaded up Half Life 2. My system is my HTPC, and I have it inside my tv cabinet. So, I understand it gets hot in there. But even still, the CPU fan seems to be working as hard as it can to keep the CPU at around 40C max. So, at low load, the CPU is at 30C with fan at 4000rpm. At high load, it's 40C at 6000rpm. I'm thinking that with Speedfan, I might be able to get low load of 40C at 3000rpm (quiet for my setup) and high load of 50C at 4000rpm. I've looked at fan speed controllers, but they are all little dials. I like Speedfan because it should be able to control the speeds by itself, without me having to think about it. |

I think I figured it out. The ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 is not on the supported motherboard list for Speedfan to be able to change fan speeds. I know something is changing the fan speed, but there are no controls in the BIOS. So, it must be something built into the motherboard. I'm thinking it's ASrock U-COP (http://www.asrock.com/news/hybrid-booster.htm), which is part of "Hyrbid Booster", a feature to aid in overclocking. So, we're outta luck, unless Alfredo can help us. |

I have contacted ASrock technical support with the following query : ------------------------------------------------------------ My CPU fan is currently running at roughly 2900rpm while my CPU is at about 30C (read from bios). I would like to enable Smart Fan III from the W83627EHF to slow down the fan automatically. I used speedfan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php) to alter the PWM configuration, but nothing change. I am wondering if something is locked in the BIOS that could prevent me from altering the fan speed. At 2900rpm it is a bit noisy :) Would upgrading my bios (P1.10) help ? ------------------------------------------------------------ Their answer is clear : ------------------------------------------------------------ 939Dual-SATA2 does not support FAN control. ------------------------------------------------------------ The Winbond chipset is only used to read the fan speed .. You can probably close this issue. |
