looks like sometimes it works , sometimes it doesn't |

There are multiple threads on this website about how to automatically start SpeedFan on startup. You might find useful hints in there. Using the startup folder there are many drawbacks. Most likely, Windows didn't complete driver initialization before executing SpeedFan. |
could you give me a few links please? |
UP! still need help! |

New screenshot added, still the same error message on boot |
Same error here since quite a while. I think SF should support any type of startup. So the startup folder as well. Why can't SF just wait until the driver has completed the initialization? And exit with error after let's say 60 sec. if it could not connect to the driver? |
UP !!! |
I could solve the problem by changing the SF driver startup type to "System". I did it with: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/serviwin.html |

@mdrmdr Thank you! Windows 7 Professional 64-bit here. SpeedFan recently started doing this for me (showing the error message instead of initialising when launched from StartUp), and your post helped me solve the issue - it seems like it's in perfect working order now :) Here are the steps to fix this issue: 1. Enter "Control Panel" > "Device Manager" 2. Enable "View" > "Show hidden devices" 3. Expand "Non-Plug and Play Drivers", find "speedfan" and double-click (or context menu > "Properties") 4. Go to the "Driver" tab and, in the "Startup" section, set "Type" to "System" However, please correct me, if this setting is undesirable for any reason. |
Don't know about whether undesirable or not but I have a new method which has worked perfectly on three different laptops. I used nssm.exe to install SpeedFan as a Windows service (SpeedFan v4.52). If anyone is still interested, I would gladly share the steps for my procedure....... |
yrralrellim please share your procedure with me |
Stand by please ...... I am going over my procedure and making sure I have it written correctly. I will post my procedure ASAP. |
Here you go brat02 .......... Please read through all of my steps before attempting this method to see if it suits you and to familiarize yourself a wee bit with my method. 1. Download speedfan from http://www.almico.com/speedfan452.exe and install speedfan in the normal manner. 2. Configure speedfan precisely as you would like it to operate when it will be running. After configuring, make sure you have stopped the speedfan program. 3. Download nssm.exe (the Non-Sucking Service Manager) from http://www.nssm.cc/ 4. Unzip the downloaded nssm file and copy nssm.exe (64-bit) to the C:/Windows/System32 folder. [Commands for nssm can be found at: http://nssm.cc/commands] 5. Remove (uninstall) the speedfan service using nssm (elevated cmd prompt) and be sure to reboot your machine. 6. Install speedfan service using nssm (elevated cmd prompt) and be sure to reboot your machine. 7. When Windows restarts, speedfan should be running exactly as you configured it to do, EXCEPT there will be no taskbar temperature icon. I download, install & use CoreTemp to monitor temperature(s) as desired and so far this method had worked flawlessly for me. |
