Summary | 0000243: SpeedFan cannot read LM99 after Expertool is started
Description | First off, To the issue: When Expertool is started after SpeedFan, SpeedFan cannot read the GPU sensor (LM99) any more. The affected temperature readings drop to zero (or their offset, 16 deg C in this case). This is the error message seen in the SpeedFan message window: SMBus msg : 22:58:42.515 Unsuccessful SELB $00 to $4C SMBus msg : 22:58:42.515 Unsuccessful SELB $01 to $4C SMBus msg : 22:58:42.515 Unsuccessful SELB $01 to $4C It repeats every few seconds. If Expertool is started first, then SpeedFan is started second, SpeedFan has no trouble reading the sensor. Expertool reads the sensor all right, no matter which program started first.
Steps To Reproduce | Start SpeedFan, check that the sensor is read, then start Expertool.
Additional Information | Thanks for supporting the LM99, the GPU core temperature graph looks very nice with its sub-degree resolution. When the load changes, the temperature rises and falls with wonderfully smooth curves (or jagged curves, depending on how the load changes).

Unfortunately, I do have no datasheet and NVidia never answered my emails. I will do my best. |
I just noticed that SpeedFan also stops reporting the GPU temperatures when ExperTool is stopped (when SF is started after ET). |
I created a new (private) beta to test this issue. Please, contact me if you are willing to give it a try. |
What do you think it should be the status of this issue after the latest beta? |
I think this particular issue should be set to 'resolved' (assuming the fix makes it into the next release). However, I still can not effectively use Speedfan and Expertool together (see the mail). This may or may not be Speedfan's fault. Hey, it's most likely Nvidia's fault! What is your opinion about the effects about which I wrote to you? |
I answered to your email. I don't think it's nVidia fault, actually, if we assume that not answering any email and not helping me to properly support their hardware is not a fault :-) |
