I built a new computer with a K8N for my Aunt and noticed the same thing. Since it is now 500 miles away I can't debug it, but have you tried turning off the fan controls in the BIOS? It was the next thing I was going to try, the next time I'm at my Aunt's house.

Just to clarify what I was seeing: It could monitor the fan speeds, but it couldn't control the fans.

It should be written on the FAQ and in the HELP file.
To try to read RPMs from three-wired fans, enter CONFIG / ADVANCED and select a higher FAN DIVISOR.
To change fan speeds, try to go as low as 0%.

Ok, here is my whole story, to avoid any more confusion.

By default on this motherboard, the BIOS is set up to control the fan speeds with respect to specified target temps. I set the CPU temp to 50'C and the case 35'C during my initial first-boot-up BIOS check (to make sure I got the heatsink on right ;).

I set up Speedfan to have the CPU fan speed min 65%/max 100% and the case fan min 50%/max 100%, with the "Automatic fan speed" button checked.

As I had the computer doing things (like a full-system virus scan), the CPU fan speed would go up and down (as monitored in the graphs) as the CPU temp got close to 50'C, all the while SpeedFan never changed from 65% for the CPU fan speed control on the main screen.

I set the desired CPU temp of 30'C in SpeedFan, and it showed 100% in little fan speed selector, but the actual fan speed didn't change at all, monitored by both the graphs and listening.

So, I could monitor the fan speeds (and see them changing), but could not control them via SpeedFan.

My suggestion (since I'm not close to the computer any more) is to disable the fan control in the BIOS, seeing if that allowed SpeedFan to then control the fans.

Does that help?

Isn't there any option in CONFIG / ADVANCED to select MANUAL PWM mode?
