Summary0001078: Can't control CPU fan on MSI P35 Neo2-FR
DescriptionCPU fan is connected to the "cpu fan" header on the board. I've tried all configurations..can't get the speed to budge. I've verified that all fan speed options are disabled in the bios.
Steps To ReproduceStart speedfan. Cannot adjust cpu fan speed.

Hi,
do you have a PWM (with a 4Pin Molex) or a regular CPU Fan (3Pin) connected to the board? As far as I know the board can only regulate 4Pin Fans on the CPU connector.

Which version of Speedfan are you using? Did you install the latest BIOS on the motherboard?

@Mestapholes
No, I don't have a 4 pin. I'm using the regular 3Pin. I think you are right though, the 4th pin is for speed regulation..but I thought that was only for the built in fan speed tool in the BIOS. I also tried SYSFAN5 but speedfan had no affect. I have been able to get speedfan to work on SYSFAN2..although I think something is different with the voltage..I'm not sure yet and need to test.

Please take a look at the motherboard manual. On page 57 (3-19) it shows that only CPU_FAN and SYS_FAN1 can be controlled. Aditionally, you should be able to get rpm readings from SYS_FAN2. All other fan connectors (SYS_FAN3,SYS_FAN4, SYS_FAN5) can neither be read nor controlled.

I verified that I can control a fan on SYS_FAN1. It's just so counterintuitive being that it is so far away from the CPU_FAN. Thanks all.

@Alfredo
I think this problem is "resolved"
On the MSI P35 Neo2-FR the CPU_Fan header can be used to control a PWM fan, the SYS_FAN1 can control a 3pin fan and SYS_FAN2 can only read rpm from a 3pin fan.

Stated in the manual and confirmed by crizo23.
